Buffered storage materials are acid-free and lignin-free with a pH of around 8.5. This tissue is excellent for interleaving between pages of paper-based records that degrade and become more acidic over time, such as newsprint.

Buffered storage materials are acid-free and lignin-free with a pH of around 8.5. This tissue is excellent for interleaving between pages of paper-based records that degrade and become more acidic over time, such as newsprint.

Unbuffered storage materials are acid-free and lignin-free and contain no additional alkaline reserve to raise the pH of the storage paper or the items in contact with it. These tissues are excellent for internal support of three-dimensional textiles (e.g., dresses, uniforms), layering of flat textiles for storage; and wrapping of leather objects. Blueprints and colour photographs should always be stored using unbuffered material (or inert plastics).
