Naato'si's Path - Guided Tour

Naató'si (the sun) gives light and life to Na'a (Mother Earth) and her inhabitants. Join a park interpreter for a 1.5 hour tour that looks at Blackfoot ways of life at Áísínai'pi and the importance of Naató'si in Blackfoot storytelling. It also explores the sun theme in the rock art.

 

Total Length of Program: 1.5 hours

Difficulty: Low to moderately difficult walk involves some stairs with no handrails. Walking tour is approximately 4-6 city blocks in length over the period of 1.5 hours.

 

Wheelchair accessible: No

Stroller accessible: No

Ages: Content recommended for ages 8 and up.

Note: No smoking or pets allowed in the preserve or on tours.

 

Due to the state of emergency declared on September 15, participants are now required to bring their own vehicles for this program. Please note we are not able to accommodate trailers or motorhomes on our tours. Pets are not permitted in the preserve and due to extreme heat conditions, are not allowed to be left in vehicles in the preserve. Vehicles cannot be left running in the preserve due to the fire hazard.

 

The content of this program is recommended for individuals ages 8 and up. Please note that children 5 years and under may not be allowed on afternoon tours in heat conditions that exceed 26°C. This is at the interpreter's discretion

Due to the reduced capacity of our programs, we recommend booking in advance to guarantee your spots. In light to that, we have reduced our booking fee from $8 to $5.

All participants will need to arrive at the Visitor Centre a minimum of 15-20 minutes in advance of their program start time to pick up their tickets. Please use washrooms and fill water bottles before your departure time.

 

We are not responsible for missed programs. If you miss your program departure time, we cannot accommodate catching you up with your program due to limited staff and locked gates. We will not provide a refund for missed programs.

 

Be prepared for this program:

For your safety and comfort, please bring 1 litre of water, sunscreen, hat and insect repellent. Note footwear restrictions on this program: participants must wear sturdy closed toe and heel footwear; NO sandals or flip-flops allowed due to uneven surfaces and cacti.

Hand Sanitizer is recommended, as we do not have access to running water during the programs. You may also wish to bring a facemask for this program.

 

Program Cancellations:

In the event of rain, wet conditions, unsafe road conditions, or other conditions that threaten the safety and comfort of participants, programs may be cancelled or replaced with alternate programs at the regular ticket price. Content of program is the same or similar. Refunds are available if visitors choose not to participate in the alternate program.

 

Cancellation Policy:

Participants may cancel up to 24 hours before the event and receive a refund of their program fee; however, the $5 booking fee is non-refundable. Events cancelled by the participant with less than 24 hours notice will not be refunded. Program cancellations may only be done by calling (403) 647-2364.

Rock Art Tour - All Ages

For centuries, First Nations peoples left a record of their history and culture by incising Rock Art on the cliffs of Writing-On-Stone. The Rock Art is composed of numerous carvings (petroglyphs) and paintings (pictographs) on sandstone cliffs. Here at Writing-On-Stone/ Áísínai'pi, visitors are able to explore Canada's most extensive rock art site and discover the significance of this history written in stone by joining a Park Interpreter for a guided walk into the Restricted Area (Archaeological Preserve). Áísínai pi is the Blackfoot word for Writing-On-Stone and means  where the drawings are .

 

Length of Program: ~ 2 hours
