The cultural landscape of Writing-on-Stone / Áísínai pi, a UNESCO World Heritage site, integrates the natural environment, cultural features, human experiences and spiritual perceptions into one. Here in this unique setting, Indigenous people came for centuries and recorded their experiences and visions on the sandstone cliffs of the Milk River Valley. This extensive rock art collection depicts generations of knowledge, traditions and history. Join a Park Interpreter for a guided walking tour of the Archaeological Preserve where the history, stories and the language of the Niitisippi people are woven together to provide insight into the meaning of the carvings (petroglyphs) and paintings (pictographs).

The content of this program is recommended for individuals ages 8 and up. Please note that children 5 years and under will not be allowed on afternoon tours in heat conditions that exceed 26°C this is at the interpreter's discretion

Due to the reduced capacity of our programs and to reduce contact with staff we recommend booking in advance to guarantee your spots. In light of that, we have reduced our booking fee from $8 to $5.

All participants will need to arrive at the Visitor Centre a minimum of 10-15 minutes in advance of their program start time. We recommend using washrooms and filling water bottles in the day-use area prior to proceeding to the Visitor Centre. Please add an additional 15 minutes to get back to the Visitor Centre in time for your program. Water is required; water fountain access at the Visitor Centre is availble from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm.

We are not responsible for missed programs; if you miss your program departure time, we will not be able to accommodate catching you up with your program due to limited staff and locked gates. We will not provide a refund for missed programs.

Be prepared for this program:

For your safety and comfort, please bring 1 litre of water, sunscreen, hat and insect repellent. Note footwear restrictions on this program: participants must wear sturdy closed toe and heel footwear; NO sandals or flip-flops allowed due to uneven surfaces and cacti.

Hand Sanitizer is recommended, as we do not have access to running water during the programs. You may also wish to bring a facemask for this program.

We recommend downloading the AB Trace Together app on your mobile device. Parks staff will have theirs enabled during this program.
