Homestead Searches

A homestead is a quarter section of land, obtained at no charge from the government except for an application fee. The patent for the land was granted after certain conditions were met. Homestead application files are particularly useful in identifying how long a family has worked a certain quarter section of land. The Provincial Archives of Alberta offers this type of search for Alberta homesteads. Please contact the Archives (780-427-1750) for further information about this service and how to proceed in placing an order.
