About the Artist:
Nancy Nickolson (she/her) is an Alberta artist and educator from Amiskwaciwâskahikan (Edmonton) living on Treaty 6 territory.
Nancy's art can be described as whimsical and nostalgic. She loves to create artwork that captures small, beautiful, timeless moments such as the making of a family recipe, learning an old-world skill from a grandparent, or embroidering a cultural pattern. She believes that memory-making traditions are special pieces of who we are. One painting at a time, Nancy connects past with present.
Nancy's artworks are primarily created with gouache paint, matte opaque pigments with powerful, bright colours.
Nancy earned her Bachelor of Fine Art in Art in Design from the University of Alberta and her Post Baccalaureate Diploma in Heritage Resources Management from Athabasca University. She has illustrated for many publications, including the marvelous children s book, Alphabet Stage. In 2022, her " How to Perogy " illustrated recipe guide received national acclaim as she raised funds for humanitarian aid in Ukraine. Nancy's artwork is on permanent public display at the University of Alberta and can be found in private collections around the world.
