Dinosaur Provincial Park

Fossil Prospecting

Interpretive Programs such as bus tours and hikes begin on Saturday of the Victoria Day (May) long weekend and run until mid October. Reservations are highly recommended for these popular programs.

There are Interpretive Programs for all ages and all levels of physical ability. Age limits for each program are strictly adhered to plus some programs have footwear restrictions (no sandals or crocs).

For any outdoor programs please make sure you bring a hat, water bottle, sunscreen and insect repellent and wear sturdy closed toe and heel footwear (running shoes are fine but NO crocs, sandals, or flip flops!).

You will spend a day prospecting in one of the richest fossil sites in the world from the late Cretaceous, age of dinosaurs. Take advantage of this chance to hike the badlands with an experienced palaeontology technician as your guide. Lunch is provided. Age restriction of 14 years and up.

Fossil Prospecting

Experience the excitement of fossil prospecting as you hike through the spectacular terrain of Dinosaur Provincial Park in search of dinosaur bones and other fossil remains. With an experienced park staff as your guide, you will get to prospect for fossils just like the professionals, learning the secrets of where to look and what to look for as you explore the breath- taking Alberta badlands. Each excursion will explore a different area of the Park, with the opportunity to discover something new each time. Although you will discover fossils yourself, please note that there will be no digging involved and all material will be left in the Park. Don t miss your chance to make the next big discovery!
