Interpretive Programs such as bus tours and hikes begin on Saturday of the Victoria Day (May) long weekend and run until mid October. Reservations are highly recommended for these popular programs.

There are Interpretive Programs for all ages and all levels of physical ability. Age limits for each program are strictly adhered to plus some programs have footwear restrictions (no sandals or crocs).

For any outdoor programs please make sure you bring a hat, water bottle, sunscreen and insect repellent and wear sturdy closed toe and heel footwear (running shoes are fine but NO crocs, sandals, or flip flops!).

Centrosaurus Bonebed Hike

 

Centrosaurus Bonebed Hike

This hike if your opportunity to experience the exceptional concentration of fossils that make Dinosaur Provincial Park world-famous. You will trek over sandy terrain and through grassy valleys to a former dig site - known as a bonebed - that contains the remains of hundreds of horned dinosaurs! Due to this year s circumstances we will be exploring a new trail to the bonebed!

As you investigate the clues in the landscape, you will be challenged to explain your theory about why so many Centrosauruses perished and were fossilized in this spot.

Price: Adult $25, Youth (ages 10-17) $16

 

Length of program: 3 hours

 

Ages: Ages 10 years and up. For safety reasons infants and toddlers are not allowed on this hike. Participants under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a paying adult.

 

Difficulty: Moderate to Difficult 4 km distance over rough terrain

 

Capacity: 14 people/hike

 

Wheelchair accessible: No

 

Be prepared for your hike: for your safety and comfort please bring water, sunscreen, hat and insect repellent. Note footwear restriction on all hikes: participants must wear sturdy closed toe and closed heel footwear; NO sandals or flip-flops allowed on hikes! Also note age restrictions for this hike. No toddlers or "babes in arms/carriers" for safety reasons.

 

Alternate Program: In the event of rain, wet conditions, unsafe road conditions, or other conditions that threaten the safety and comfort of participants, this hike will be cancelled. Refunds will be provided.

 

Cancellation Policy: Participants may cancel up to 48 hours before the event and receive a refund of their program fee, however the $5 booking fee is non-refundable.  Join a park interpreter to learn about the importance of casting fossils, play games to learn about the dinosaurs that lived here 75 million years ago, and cast your very own fossil to take home with you!

 

Meet at the Visitor Centre to pick up tickets 15 minutes before your program.

 

Price: Adult $10, Youth (ages 7-17) $8, Child (ages 4-6) $5, Baby (ages 0-3) FREE

 

Length of program: 1 hour

 

Ages: All ages welcome. Participants under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a paying adult.

Stomp back in time and learn about the marvelous Cretaceous creatures who once roamed these lands. Learn about the dinosaur enthusiasts who are uncovering the Mesozoic mysteries lying just beneath the hills. We will make a number of stops throughout the meandering valleys of the badlands on this family friendly hike.

 

Meet your guide at the Natural Preserve Gate with your own vehicle, and car-convoy to the trailhead in the Natural Preserve.

 

Price: Adult $25, Youth (ages 14 yrs & up) $16, Child (ages 6 & under) $8, Family $70

 

When you purchase a combination of 2 Adults and 2-3 Youth or 1 Adult and 3-4 Youth (up to 5 seats total) the program will find you the best rate and offer the Family pricing for 5 persons.

Grab your camera and join us on a journey to uncover paleontological secrets and savor the setting sun in the spectacular badlands. The dancing shadows and cooler temperatures are ideal for spotting local wildlife during this quieter park experience. Your guide will be present and eager to answer your wildlife and dinosaur questions during this more informal hike.

 

Meet your guide at the Badlands Trail, where you will begin your hike into the Natural Preserve.

Great Badlands Hike

Calling all adventurers! This lengthy hike is an exhilarating experience that takes you over steep slopes, through coulees, and deep into the badlands.
Throughout your adventure, your guide will explain why the park is one of the richest sites in the world for late cretaceous fossils! Whether it s the fossils, the serenading songbirds or catching a glimpse of the hardy wildlife that excites you, our longest tour is aimed to satisfy your appetite (bring your own snacks though!) for knowledge both ancient and present-day.

 

Price: Adult $35, Youth (ages 10-17) $20

 

Length of program: 4 hours

 

Ages: Ages 10 and up.

 

Difficulty: Moderate to Difficult ~6 km distance over rough terrain
