Reservations are highly recommended for these popular programs.

There are Interpretive Programs for all ages and all levels of physical ability. Age limits for each program are strictly adhered to plus some programs have footwear restrictions (no sandals or crocs).

For any outdoor programs please make sure you bring a hat, water bottle, sunscreen and insect repellent and wear sturdy closed toe and heel footwear (running shoes are fine but NO crocs, sandals, or flip flops!).

Centrosaurus Bonebed Hike

This adventure is your opportunity to experience the exceptional concentration of fossils that make Dinosaur Provincial Park world-famous. With a knowledgeable guide, you will trek over sandy terrain, over hoo-doo passes, and through grassy valleys to a former dig site (known as a bonebed) that contains the remains of hundreds of horned dinosaurs!

As you investigate the clues in the landscape, you will discover the ideas about why so many dinosaurs are preserved at this one unique site.

 

Meeting location: First fossil house parking lot on public loop road

 

Price: Adult $30, Youth (ages 10-17) $18, Family $96

 

When you purchase a combination of 2 Adults and 2-3 Youth or 1 Adult and 3-4 Youth (up to 5 seats total) the program will find you the best rate and offer the Family pricing for 5 persons.

 

Length of program: 3 hours

 

Ages: Ages 10 years and up. For safety reasons infants and toddlers are not allowed on this hike. Participants under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a paying adult.

 

Difficulty: Moderate to Difficult 4 km distance over rough terrain, loose ground cover, and some hills/steeper sections.

 

Capacity: 18 people/program

 

Wheelchair accessible: No

Be prepared for your hike: for your safety and comfort please bring 1 litre of water, snacks, sunscreen, hat and insect repellent. Note footwear restriction on all hikes: participants must wear sturdy closed toe and closed heel footwear; NO sandals or flip-flops allowed on hikes! No bathrooms available during program.

 

Alternate Program: In the event of rain, wet conditions, unsafe road conditions, or other conditions that threaten the safety and comfort of participants, this hike will be cancelled or replaced with alternate programs at the regular ticket price. Content of program is the same or similar. Refunds are available if visitors choose not to participate in the alternate program.

Cancellation Policy: Participants may cancel up to 48 hours before the event and receive a refund of their program fee, however the $5 booking fee is non-refundable. Events cancelled by the participant with less than 48 hours notice will not be refunded. Program cancellations may only be done by calling (403) 378-4344.

Explore Dinosaur Provincial Park UNESCO World Heritage Site from the eyes of the First Nations people, fossil hunters and palaeontologists who came to this rugged part of Alberta in years past. From the comfort and safety of the park bus, experience the stunning views and harsh environment of the largest badlands in Canada. You are on and off the bus a few times as your park guide shows you the interesting land formations and fossils including an  in-situ  hadrosaur (in the rock that it was found).

 

Great for all ages. (No pets allowed on interpretive tour programs, in the park buses or in the Park Visitor Centre please.)

 

MASKS ARE REQUIRED ON THE BUS. REFUNDS WILL NOT BE PROVIDED TO THOSE WHO DON'T BRING MASKS.

Ages: All ages (no stollers allowed on the bus due to limited space). Participants under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a paying adult. "Babes in arms" are considered persons and must have a full seat reserved for them regardless of whether they are being held by a parent.


Difficulty: Easy but uneven surfaces when off the bus at various stops


Capacity: 10 people/program


Wheelchair accessible: No; due to the rough terrain, this program is not wheelchair accessible.

Parking: Located in the Cretaceous Cafe/concession parking lot, just down from the Visitor Centre, (a short walk on the path) where you will load onto the park bus.

Cast from the Past

This outdoor/indoor program will take you behind-the-scenes into the Royal Tyrrell Field Station paleontology lab.  As an active site for research, this facility in the Dinosaur Provincial Park Visitor Centre is used by Paleontologists to study fossils. Like a scientist, you will create a replica fossil cast you can take home, and learn about why these replicas are vital tools in paleontology studies today. Hold genuine fossils while hearing stories about the amazing creatures that once roamed this ancient landscape.

 

Price: Adult (18 years and up) $10; Youth (5-17 years) $10

 

Length of program: 30-45 mins

Location: Program takes place in the Park Visitor Centre at Dinosaur Provincial Park. *Parking is located just down the hill from the Visitor Centre near the concession and it is a short walk to the venue (2 minutes).
