Interpretive Programs such as bus tours and hikes begin on Saturday of the Victoria Day (May) long weekend and run until mid October. Reservations are highly recommended for these popular programs.

There are Interpretive Programs for all ages and all levels of physical ability. Age limits for each program are strictly adhered to plus some programs have footwear restrictions (no sandals or crocs).

For any outdoor programs please make sure you bring a hat, water bottle, sunscreen and insect repellent and wear sturdy closed toe and heel footwear (running shoes are fine but NO crocs, sandals, or flip flops!).

Cast from the Past

 

Enter the palaeontology lab in the Park Visitor Centre/Field Station to experience some of the real behind-the-scenes work of palaeontology. Every participant gets to make an authentic fossil replica to take home.

 

Price: Adult (18 years and up)$15; Youth (7-17 years) $15

 

Length of program: 90 minutes

 

Ages: 7 years and up. Participants under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a paying adult and sorry no participants under the age of 7 years allowed in the laboratory.

Location: Program takes place in the Park Visitor Centre at Dinosaur Provincial Park. *Parking is located just down the hill from the Visitor Centre near the concession and it is a short walk to the venue (2 minutes).

No late arrivals accepted. Please be on time for this program! No refunds for late arrivals.

 

Join us in the Palaeo Lab and create an authentic fossil cast that will be yours to keep! Surrounded by the real tools of the trade, you will learn about the scientific work that takes a fossil from a simple curiosity to a piece of scientific evidence. You will discover how the very fossil you have replicated may have helped change our view of dinosaurs, brought new understanding about ancient environments, or even told the story of its own death.

Fossil Safari

Join your park guide on a safari through the badlands for a chance to discover the rich fossil resource at this protected UNESCO World Heritage Site! Visit an "in-situ" fossil site where you will find fossils on the surface and learn how to identify them. No digging or removal of fossils! Take a close look at micro (small) fossils and learn about the diversity of animals that lived here 75 million years ago in the late Cretaceous. All ages are welcome and will enjoy this safari.


Price: Adult $17, Youth $10 (ages 7-17 yrs), Child $5 (ages 4-6 yrs), Baby$2 (ages 0-3 yrs), Family $45

Length of program: 1.75 hours


Ages: All ages - highly recommended for families with children. Participants under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a paying adult. "Babes in arms" are considered persons and must have a full seat reserved for them regardless of whether they are being held by a parent. No strollers allowed on the bus due to limited space. NOTE the new cheaper pricing for Babies aged 0-3 years for 2018 !

Please note that pets are not allowed on interpretive tour programs, in the park buses or in any public buildings.


Alternate Program: In the event of rain, wet conditions, unsafe road conditions, or other conditions that threaten the safety and comfort of participants, programs may be cancelled or replaced with alternate programs at the regular ticket price. Content of alternate program is the same or similar. Refunds are available if visitors choose not to participate in the alternate program.

Explorer's Bus Tour

 

Experience the stunning views of the beautiful badlands from the comfort of a park tour bus and during short excursions off the bus. You will visit an in-situ Hadrosaur dinosaur display plus you will experience the unquie geology while you learn about the explorers who have travelled to this special place over the past 100+ years.

 

Great for all ages. (No pets allowed on interpretive tour programs, in the park buses or in the Park Visitor Centre please.)


Price: Adult $17, Youth $10 (ages 7 - 17 yrs), Child $5 (ages 4-6 yrs), Baby $2 (0-3 yrs), Family $45

Difficulty: Easy but uneven surfaces when off the bus at various stops

Wheelchair accessible: No; due to the rough terrain, this program is not wheelchair accessible.

 

Be prepared for your tour: for your comfort and safety please bring water, sunscreen, hat and insect repellent.

Tours leave on scheduled times so please arrive ½ hour before tour time to pick up your tickets at the Park Visitor Centre and be ready to load.

Parking is located in the Cretaceous Cafe/concession parking lot, just down from the Visitor Centre, (a short walk on the path) where you will load onto the park bus.


Alternate Program: In the event of rain, wet conditions, unsafe road conditions, or other conditions that threaten the safety and comfort of participants, programs may be cancelled or replaced with alternate programs at the regular ticket price. Content of program is the same or similar. Refunds are available if visitors choose not to participate in the alternate program.


Cancellation Policy: When you book less than 12 seats you may cancel up to 48 hours before the event and receive a refund of the tour fee. Events cancelled by the participant with less than 48 hours notice will not be refunded.

Large Group Cancellation: If you book 12 or more seats on our 24 passenger park bus, the park will require 1 full week for a refund of your tour fee.

Centrosaurus Quarry Hike

Length of program: 2 hours 30 minutes

 

Difficulty: Moderate - Difficult - 2 km distance over rough terrain

 

Ages: Ages 7 years and up. For safety reasons infants and toddlers are not allowed on this hike. Participants under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a paying adult.

 

Price: Adult $22, Youth (ages 7 - 17 yrs) $12, Family $60 (2 adults and their youth up to 5 spaces). The booking program will pick the best rate for your family. Please note: no children or babies on this program.

The Centrosaurus Bonebed Hike is your best opportunity to see the unequalled concentration of dinosaur fossils that makes Dinosaur Provincial Park world famous. You will journey through rugged streambeds and over sandstone ridges to reach a former dig site, known as a  bonebed , that contains the remains of hundreds of horned dinosaurs! As you investigate the clues these fossils provide you will be challenged to come up with your own theory to explain their mass death.

Be prepared for your hike: for your safety and comfort please bring water, sunscreen, hat and insect repellent. Note footwear restriction on all hikes: participants must wear sturdy closed toe and heel footwear; NO sandals or flip-flops allowed on hikes! Also note age restrictions for this hike: ages 7 years and up.

Difficulty: Moderate - approx.6 km distance over rough terrain

 

Ages: Ages 10 years and up. Participants under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a paying adult.

 

Price: Adult $22, Youth (ages 10 - 17 yrs) $12, Family $60 (2 adults with up to 3 youth)

 

Capacity: 30 people/hike

   

Wheelchair accessible: No

 

Meet at the Park Visitor Centre.

 

Come along for a winter hike through Camel s End Coulee, located in the park s Natural Preserve. Together with your guide, you will traverse through the badlands coulee to see land formations in the winter while having the opportunity to pass around fossils, observe wildlife, and identify plants. It is recommended to dress for weather conditions, bring hiking poles and to wear crampons or snowshoes, as terrain can be icy.

 

Cancelled Program: In the event of rain, wet or extreme cold conditions, (minus 22 degress C or colder) or other conditions that threaten the safety and comfort of participants, program may be cancelled. Refunds are will be available if the park cannot run the program.

Dinosaur Preserve Walk

Join us for a guided walk of the Natural Preserve Road. This recreation program will feature the beauty of the badlands with stunning views of Dinosaur Provincial Park, as well as opportunities to touch and hold fossils and view the unique geology of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

 

Please dress appropriately for weather conditions. Bring water and a snack as we are walking for 3.5 hours!

 

(No pets allowed on interpretive tour programs, in the park buses or in public buildings please.)


Price: Adult $22, Youth $12 (ages 7 - 17 yrs), Family rate (up to 2 adults and 3 youth) $60


Length of program: 3.5 hours


Ages: Ages 7 years and up. For safety reasons infants, toddlers and young children are not allowed on this hike. Participants under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a paying adult.


Difficulty: Difficult - up to 7.5 km distance. This hike takes place on a gravel road in the backcounry of the park. Some areas may be slippery, depending on current weather conditions.


Capacity: 30 people/hike


Wheelchair accessible: No

 

Be prepared for this hike by dressing for the weather. Note footwear restriction on all hikes: participants must wear sturdy closed toe and heel footwear; gripped footwear with spikes/crampons are recommended for icy conditions! Also note age restrictions for this hike.


Alternate Program: In the event of severe weather, or other conditions that threaten the safety and comfort of participants, this program will be cancelled and refunds available. Please check the weather before you come out to the park or phone us at (403) 378-4344 to see if we had to cancel your hike due to severe weather conditions.
