Maps and Plans

The cartographic holdings of the Provincial Archives of Alberta are comprised almost entirely of maps of Alberta. However, in order to establish some perspective on the province in relation to its neighbours, a small selection of maps of adjacent provinces, territories and American states (including British Columbia, the Yukon, the Northwest Territories and Montana) are also maintained. The earliest original map included in the Provincial Archives' holdings dates from 1770 and shows the extent of the British possessions in North America.

HOMESTEAD TOWNSHIP MAP, Per Map

The Provincial Archives has a series of township maps, which identify the original homesteaders on the township. You will need the Township, Range and Meridian (also known as the legal land description) to order these maps from the vaults. Please speak with our Reference Archivist about this process.
